Detailed description of Timber Point Country Club

Timber Point Country Club, is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Great River, New York. The facility has three 9-hole courses: The Red Course, The White Course, and The Blue course. These 9-hole courses can be combined to form three different 18-hole, 6,500 yard, par-72 courses, Red/White, Red/Blue, and White/Blue.

The original eighteen holes were the Red and Blue Courses. They first opened for play in 1927. The course designers were H. S. Colt and C. H. Alison. The White Course opened in 1973.

The Blue Course is flat and runs alongside the Great South Bay. The putting greens are medium-sized, undulating, well-bunkered, and some are elevated. There are three ponds and a creek that come into play on five holes. #2 Hole (Blue) - 146 Yards - Par 3 is Timber Point Country Club's signature hole. This hole offers a panoramic view of the Connetquot River and the Great South Bay as you hit off of an elevated tee across a pond on this memorable short par three "Harbor Hole." The Timber Point Golf Course 9-hole Blue Course plays to a par-36 and a distance of 3,341 yards for a course rating of 36.4 and a slope rating of 124.

The Red Course is flat with tree-lined fairways. The greens are small and difficult to read. There are two ponds that come into play on two holes. The Timber Point Golf Course 9-hole Red Course plays to a par-36 and a distance of 3,300 yards for a course rating of 36.1 and a slope rating of 129.

The White Course is in the middle of the other two course and was built on flat terrain. There are six ponds that come into play on five holes. There are sand bunkers on the fairways and around the greens. The greens are small on this course. The Timber Point Golf Course 9-hole White Course plays to a par-36 and a distance of 3,141 yards for a course rating of 35.0 and a slope rating of 122.

Great public course. Upgraded in the last few years. Beautiful Setting. Blue course is along the Great Sound Bay giving you a poor man's Pebble Beach feeling.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

This is a Suffolk County Municipal Golf Course. Non-residents pay more. The location of the course is simply beautiful. There are 3 nine-hole courses (Red, White and Blue) The Blue course hugs the Great South Bay and can be described as a poor man's Pebble Beach. The second par 4 on the Blue is a 165+ yard up-hill shot onto a bluff that juts out into the bay--awesome but tough. The next two holes hug the Great South Bay and are reminiscent of the 18th at Pebble--I know it's a bit of stretch but you have to see it to believe it. I played in March 2008, on a cold blustery day. So, the conditions of the course were not up to peek season form (especially the greens). However, the two guys I played with ensured me that in the spring and summer Timber Point is a gem--I have no reason not to believe them.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level
